A LITTLE KITCHEN BACKSTORY

Let’s make something lovely.

Avocado toast needs very little to feel complete. A squeeze of lemon and a measured pinch of salt sharpen the avocado’s mild flavor, while hot sauce adds a little heat and acidity.

A sturdy slice of bread gives the topping something to sit on. Toast it until the surface feels dry and crisp, then add the avocado close to serving time so the bread keeps its texture.

What you’ll need

Toast

Let’s do this

  1. 1

    Toast the bread

Toast the bread in a toaster or dry skillet until the edges are golden and the surface is crisp, about 3–4 minutes depending on the bread.

  2. 2

    Mash the avocado

Wash the avocado before cutting it. Halve it, remove the pit carefully, and scoop the flesh into a bowl. Mash with the lemon juice, salt, and pepper, leaving a little texture.

  3. 3

    Assemble

Divide the avocado between the toast slices and finish each with 1/2 teaspoon hot sauce. Serve immediately.

Allergen heads-up

Wheat (bread; check for additional bread allergens). Check every ingredient and substitute for your own needs.

THE LITTLE THINGS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Before the happy first bite.

01

Use an avocado that gives gently when pressed but does not feel hollow or mushy.

02

Mash just before serving for the freshest color.

03

Thick bread supports the topping better than a very thin sandwich slice.

Save some for later

Best assembled and eaten immediately. Refrigerate extra mashed avocado in a covered container with food-safe wrap pressed against its surface and use within 24 hours. Store the bread separately; assembled toast becomes soft.
